The Garden of Tane is a beautiful scenic reserve in the heart of Akaroa, Banks Peninsula.
Start: Multiple entry points; main entrance is at the corner of Rue Jolie and Aylmers Valley Road. A playground is located near the main entrance.
Time: Up to 60 min.
Access: Suitable for buggies.
Dogs: Under effective control at all times, on a leash in the cemeteries.
Multiple tracks criss-cross the Garden of Tane, creating a maze of shady tracks through bush to explore.
The 'Garden' features a mix of mature exotic trees and native regeneration, lots of birdsong, lovely views and a rich botanical and human history. Several historic cemeteries where many of the early Akaroa settlers are buried are worth wandering through, providing a window into the past.
