If you are looking for ways to help regenerate the Port Hills after the fires in February 2017 then one of these volunteer opportunities might be right for you.
The Council restoration plantings at Marleys Hill, Mt Ada and Kennedys Bush were destroyed and those at Thompsons Reserve were badly burnt. In total we lost 6,500 planted trees to the fire, but we will replant these sites this winter.
Only 10 percent of the land burnt was Council reserve land, most of the affected land is private property or managed by Summit Road Society. Council is now working to manage the volunteer interest with those who need help.
But its not just about planting; there are other ways to help as well. Stay tuned for updates and we look forward to having your support and help to regenerate the Port Hills.
