After the February fires there's lots of work to be done to clean up the Port Hills.

Volunteer rubbish collectors on the Port Hills. The burnt areas beside the Summit Road have revealed a lot of rubbish. This was an opportunity to clean it up before weeds cover it, creating an environmental hazard.

Congratulations to all involved in this massive clean-up event held Saturday 6 May!

120 volunteers walked the Summit Road, from Bowenvale to Cass Peak, contributing 360 hours, filled two skips with rubbish - that's about 18 cubic metres!

This event was jointly held with Conservation Volunteers New Zealand and involved individuals and families; Air NZ Green Team, Summit Road Society members, Riccarton High School Eco-Group, Kathmandu,  and the Student Volunteer Army as well as our team of Port Hills Rangers.
