After the February fires there's lots of work to be done to clean up the Port Hills.
The burnt areas beside the Summit Road have revealed a lot of rubbish. This was an opportunity to clean it up before weeds cover it, creating an environmental hazard.
Congratulations to all involved in this massive clean-up event held Saturday 6 May!
120 volunteers walked the Summit Road, from Bowenvale to Cass Peak, contributing 360 hours, filled two skips with rubbish - that's about 18 cubic metres!
This event was jointly held with Conservation Volunteers New Zealand and involved individuals and families; Air NZ Green Team, Summit Road Society members, Riccarton High School Eco-Group, Kathmandu, and the Student Volunteer Army as well as our team of Port Hills Rangers.
