A new Hornby library, customer services, and recreation and sport centre is planned for the growing south-west community.

With more than 12,000 new homes expected in Christchurch’s south-west by 2044, the Council has approved a $35.7 million budget for facilities to serve the growing population. It's hoped to begin construction in early 2021, for a late 2022 opening.

Consultation on proposed changes to the use of Kyle Park is set to begin.

This is the next step towards getting Hornby’s planned library, customer service and recreation and sport centre built on a section of Kyle Park.

The decision to proceed with consultation was made at last night’s Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board meeting.

In December 2018, Councillors approved the Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board’s recommendation backing Kyle Park as the preferred location.
